Metal Box - Stories From John Lydon's Public Image Ltd Artist: PIL, Public Image Ltd, Lydon, John, Sex Pistols
Author: Strongman, Phil

Riots, sonic terrorism, all-out confrontation and the artist formerly known as Johnny Rotten in one of the few original Rock and Roll stories yet to be told. John Lydon - Jubilee Public Enemy No. 1 - quit the Sex Pistols and formed Public Image Limited - the ultimate cult band - as anarchic and out-of-control as the Pistols but with groundbreaking music that finally lived up to punk's year zero rhetoric. Their first three albums - First Edition, Metal Box and Flowers of Romance - were as original as any ever issued and the group's corporate styling and innovatory sound were unique - dub-sonic bass overlaid with shimmering guitars and Lydon's banshee-type wailing, both indie, punk and dance. Lydon's confrontational approach led to riots at gigs and more tabloid outrage, as well as hit singles and some remarkably durable music. Metal Box is the first time this story has been told in depth by most of the key players.
